Replicating plaster finishes
and the hallways are beginning to look historic again.
Preparing for the new elevators to serve the roof terrace means first cutting holes.
Carpenter crews creating the storefronts as they were in 1910 ... except with modern tools. Behind the scenes incredible complexity lurks to make it confortable and meet modern standards for heating, cooling, and electrical. Saving historic fabric affected by the work is a big job in itself ... including these original light panels from the roof terrace displaced by the new elevator openings.
Tile work in progress on floor five ... and halls beginning to have character they have not had in many many years (see the before pictures for contrast!) |
