This album presents some of the pictures taken by the photographer we hired, Tammy Hughes. She shot over 700 frames and passed along almost 400 after weeding out the bad ones. Here is a comfortable 58 that we think are really representative of the day and of the fun we had with Tammy.

On the Sunday of the 2006 SAM conference I ditched the final morning sessions (after my own 8:30-10 session) and went exploring in Chicago. One of the most architecturally significant cities in the U.S., Chicago makes it difficult to put down the camera. Thank god for large-capacity memory cards...

Mystery Neighborhood near LAX (December 2003)

Photos of the remains of a mystery neighborhood at the western boundary of LAX. What look like bike paths or jogging trails from the air are actually the old streets of some forgotten nieghborhood sacrificed to the expansion of the airport.

After reading Blake Gumprecht's The Los Angeles River: Its Life, Death, and Possible Rebirth, I was taken with the idea of personally visiting the body of water that's so much a part of L.A. and yet so invisible. This gallery is about tracking the Los Angeles River from Canoga Park to Long Beach. January 11, 2004.

Note: On the last page of the album is a mini-album of pictures taken after it rained fairly heavily in late February.

We had a couple of lunchtime visitors one day in January when the wedding flower girls, Jackie and her younger sister Kimi, came to Stockton for the afternoon. Grilled cheese sandwiches were eaten, cookies were baked, sweaters were de-stained, paper was drawn on, and a nice time was had by all.

Following the 2005 SAM conference in Eugene, OR I drove home via the scenic route: over Willamette Pass, into the Klamath Lake region, and stopped by the impressive Shasta Dam.

Roadtrip 2001: US 93 & Beyond

From August 4 to August 15, 2001 Rhonelle and I drove north along US Highway 93 from Las Vegas all the way up to Montana. I took along my PowerBook G4 and digital camera to document the trip via a web site. To great acclaim, the daily reports and pictures from the road captured our travels and thoughts on the areas we visited. One of the best roadtrips I've experienced.
