After landing in Honolulu we missed our lei greeting and consequently missed an easy shuttle ride to the interisland terminal. Instead we had to lug our luggage (is that why they call it luggage?) across the whole fargin' airport. By hand. In the snow. Oh, wait. Wrong tale of woe. It was sort of raining though!

With a basic rental car at our disposal, the next day we motored to the other side of the island, to see the Hawala Valley. We stopped at an overlook to take this picture of the destination below.

Down from the overlook the road narrows to a single lane for the steep descent into the valley area. Near the end of the road is a public park with this interesting old structure. No idea what it was used for.

The next day we really wanted to find someplace to hike. After a lot of driving around we ended up walking to the Kalaupapa Lookout, which looks out over the Kalaupapa peninsula on the island's north shore.
