We stayed overnight in Millbrae before our early morning flight out of SFO. The young man who took our picture had to be the most unexcited honeymoon photographer ever. Last comment 08/20/2008.

After landing in Honolulu we missed our lei greeting and consequently missed an easy shuttle ride to the interisland terminal. Instead we had to lug our luggage (is that why they call it luggage?) across the whole fargin' airport. By hand. In the snow. Oh, wait. Wrong tale of woe. It was sort of raining though! After the quick flight to Moloka'i we pent four nights at the Moloka'i Ranch, on the western end of the island. Here's the sunset from our room. Last comment 08/20/2008.

With a basic rental car at our disposal, the next day we motored to the other side of the island, to see the Hawala Valley. We stopped at an overlook to take this picture of the destination below. Last comment 08/20/2008.

Glenn on the overlook. 'Twas quite windy that morning. Last comment 08/20/2008.

Down from the overlook the road narrows to a single lane for the steep descent into the valley area. Near the end of the road is a public park with this interesting old structure. No idea what it was used for. Last comment 08/20/2008.

Here's a shot of the park. Very small, but pleasant. Last comment 08/20/2008.

Just past the park the asphalt gives way to dirt. Just around the bend to the right is a parking area for the beach cove. Last comment 08/20/2008.

You walk down this short path to the beach. Last comment 08/20/2008.

We had a snack on the beach and looked around. Unescorted hiking through the valley is not possible, unfortunately. Last comment 08/20/2008.

Another view of the cove. Last comment 08/20/2008.

On our way back up the hill we stopped at a different overlook to get this view. Last comment 08/20/2008.

A hairpin turn... Last comment 08/20/2008.

And here's the money shot of the valley we couldn't really explore. If you look closely you can see two waterfaalls. Last comment 08/20/2008.

Later in the afternoon we drove down from the Ranch area to the Ranch's private beach. Last comment 04/14/2011.

We spent the rest of the afternoon on the veranda sipping Kona Pale Ale and watching the sunset. Last comment 09/26/2011.

The next day we really wanted to find someplace to hike. After a lot of driving around we ended up walking to the Kalaupapa Lookout, which looks out over the Kalaupapa peninsula on the island's north shore. Last comment 08/20/2008.

The sea cliffs on the north shore are quite impressive, but essentially inacessible. Last comment 08/20/2008.

We drove most of the length of the island every day because of our western location. There is one other large resort on the island, and this shot comes from the turn-off leading to it. Last comment 08/20/2008.
