Across Northern CA to Shasta Dam (February 2005)

  A few hours later I was on the backside of the Cascades, down US 97 to Klamath Falls, and then over the border to the real gem of the trip: CA 161. It basically runs parallel to the state line and the turnoff is about 25 feet south of the border crossing.  About halfway along 161 there is a nice roadside pullout to experience the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. This is looking south at Lower Klamath Lake.  Looking north here, into Oregon.
